Wellbutrin Addictions? Wellbutrin Considered Non-Abusable

According to the United States government’s classification of psychiatric drugs, Wellbutrin, also known by its generic name, bupropion, is non-abusable; in other words, has a low potential for abuse. Clearly, the danger of Wellbutrin addictions is extremely low but there are other important considerations surrounding this anti-depressant medication.

Addiction researchers are concerned not only with addiction rates, but also with the adverse side effects and withdrawal symptoms of all types of drugs. Search frequency analysis is an innovative new form of research that can help to identify trends in drug use. This particular study is dedicated to quantifying and analyzing the search results for Wellbrutin and related search phrases.

Wellbutrin and Prozac, Wellbutrin and Zoloft Comparisons Dominate Graphs

The clear focus of both Graphs 1 and 3 below is comparisons between Wellbutrin and other anti-depressants. The first two phrases alone, “Wellbutrin and Prozac” and “Wellbutrin and Zoloft” total 59,955 searches over a one-year span. It follows that 27 out of the 30 phrases in Graph 1 are dedicated to anti-depressant comparisons.

The results of these searches will include the fact that Wellbutrin causes fewer sexual side effects than other SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) anti-depressants and that, unlike other SSRI anti-depressants, Wellbutrin is an atypical anti-depressant that targets multiple receptors in the brain. Subsequently, this increases the brain’s supply of dopamine and norepinephrine.
