Topping the list at just over 27,000 searches over a one-year period, the phrase “sugar addiction” is an alluring topic. Additionally, the phrases “sugar addicts” and “sugar addict” also figure prominently in this study.

Two interesting phrases of note in Graph 1 are “sugar and cocaine” and “sugar and heroin”. These searches turn up a variety of resources, including the findings of studies that show resemblances in the release of brain chemicals prompted by the consumption of sugar and cocaine, the similarity in the refinement process of sugar and heroin, and even the use of sugar as a substitute for heroin or cocaine by drug dealers.
