Child Pornography – Law Enforcement Trying to Keep Pace with Internet Technology

Although the creation, possession, and distribution of child pornography is illegal, digital technology including encryption, Internet relay chat, key-chain storage devices, and peer to peer networks allow child pornographers and pedophiles to share illegal content (InformationWeek). In fact, according to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, more than 20,000 images of child pornography are posted online every week and approximately 20% of all Internet pornography involves children.

Investigations into the search habits of online users can be very revealing, shedding light on the nature of the online demand for illegal pornographic materials. Addictions researchers can use the information from search frequency studies to track trends and developments in all types of addictions, including drugs, alcohol, prescription medications, gambling, and sexual addictions.

Gender Specific Searches Include “Nude Young Boys”

The most frequent searches in both Graphs 1 and 3 are “teen” searches, but others for younger children include “nude young boys” and “preteen sex”. The search totals for the “teen” searches are astonishing and disturbing.

The phrase “nude young boys” is the first gender specific search phrase in Graph 1 with 1,017,613 queries. There is one more gender search phrase in Graph 1 – “girls nude” at 569,971.
