Nude & Naked – Internet Searches Numbering in the Millions

Incredibly, two simply words – “nude” & “naked” – combine to amass an incredible amount of Internet queries every year. This search frequency study is dedicated to quantifying and ranking searches involving the words nude and naked. The results of this study are reflective of several societal trends, including the popularity of the porn industry and, evidently, society’s fascination with celebrities.

Not only can search frequency studies reflect shared tendencies, they are also useful to researchers in keeping pace with important societal developments, such as addictions.

Fascination with Nude Celebrities

Society’s obsession with celebrities extends to nude celebrities as well. While online postings of nude pictures is normally a source of scandal and embarrassment, for some celebrity “wanna-be’s”, the adage “no such thing as bad publicity” holds true, since nude pictures can increase name recognition incredibly.

Graphs 1 and 3 constitute a veritable “who’s who” in the entertainment industry as of the date of this study. Topping the list is Vanessa Hudgens. This actress/singer gained fame in the 2006 Disney film, High School Musical, but it was the surfacing of nude photos on the Internet that made this celebrity a household name. The two-word combination, “hudgens nude” tops Graph 1 with an astonishing 17,136,121 queries.

Other celebrity names on the list are Britney Spears, Jessica Alba, Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson, Carmen Electra and Angelina Jolie. Interestingly enough, there are no male celebrity searches in either of these graphs.

While these numbers seem staggering, they make sense in relation to these graphs. “Naked girls” was the third most frequently searched phrase, with 9,426,133 queries.
