Porn Addiction – Large Component of Sexual Addiction
According to the Internet Filter Review, 10% of adults admit to having an Internet sexual/porn addiction. Other statistics are equally as revealing. In 2006, the porn industry generated $97 billion in revenue. As well, Adult Video News reported 2005 adult DVD and video rentals at almost one billion dollars.
Search frequency investigations like the one featured on this page reveal not only search tendencies but also can draw attention to concerning societal issues like porn addiction. Addictions researchers use these numbers to track trends and developments in all types of addictions.
Free Porn – Highest Number of Tracked Searches
With almost 30,000,000 searches in just a one-year period, “free porn” generated the highest number of searches in comparison to any other addictions search frequency study by an extremely large margin. For example, in a similar gambling addiction investigation, the most frequently searched phrase, “online gambling” generated only 337,682 queries. “Online gambling” garnered approximately 1% of the searches “free porn” received. While these query numbers seem astronomical, other statistical sources support this popularity. The Internet Filter Review also reports that an average of 72 million worldwide users visit adult websites monthly. A similar finding from comScore Media Metrix shows that more than 70% of men ages 18 to 34 visit a pornographic website every month.

How Often is Pornography Addiction Searched?
Nowhere in Graphs 1 or 3 can the phrase “pornography addiction” be found. Similarly, “porn addiction” does not appear in the top 100 phrases in Graph 4. To find any mention of searches for pornography addiction, you need to refer to the sexual addictions page, where “pornography addiction” received 84,600 searches. Other searches for pornography push searches for “pornography addiction” too far down the list. “Free porn video clips” is the 100th most frequently searched phrase with 232,498 searches; this is 147,898 more searches than the “pornography addiction” search phrase.
