The explosive growth of the Internet has led to the emergence of many online businesses, including online pharmacies offering overnight delivery. While this service provides convenience, it also has the potential to be abused by individuals with addiction issues. Addictions specialists are particularly interested in the growth of overnight prescription delivery services because of its circumstantial evidence of addictive impulses, highlighting substances commonly sought as quickly as possible (overnight).

The following search frequency study focuses on the word “overnight” and related search phrases. By tracking and quantifying online queries, substance abuse professionals and researchers can attempt to keep pace with the growing trend in online prescription sales and compulsive substance requests.

Overnight Phentermine – No Prescription Necessary

In Graph 1, the first “overnight” query dealing with prescription medication is “phentermine overnight” followed by “overnight phentermine”. Graph 3 also shows six additional phentermine phrases, beginning with “phentermine no prescription”. The popularity of this appetite suppressant is particularly disturbing because it is an amphetamine, which is highly addictive. Equally disturbing is the availability of medications without a prescription, or as is stated on many online pharmacy sites, “no prior prescription necessary”.

In Graph 1, 23 out of the 30 search variations are inquiries for anti-depressants, pain medications, erectile dysfunction drugs and diet pills with overnight delivery. Graph 3 further supports this trend with 39 “overnight” phrases for prescription medication. Clearly, the demand for this service is growing.
