Signs of drug use
Signs of prescription drug addiction Prescription drug addiction is usually different in its development than addiction to illegal drugs. For one, it usually starts with a prescription for the drug in response to a medical need and its use doesn't carry the stigma associated with illegal drug use. The signs of prescription drug abuse, though, are similar or identical to illegal drug use and include:
1. Abrupt changes in work or school attendance, quality of work, work output, grades, or discipline issues. Drug abusers and alcoholics often have unusual temper outbreaks, withdraw from responsibility and have other general changes in overall attitude,
2. Deterioration of physical appearance and grooming,
3. Wearing of sunglasses at inappropriate times,
4. Continual wearing of long-sleeved garments, particularly in hot weather; or a reluctance to wear short-sleeved clothing when appropriate,
5. Unusual borrowing of money from friends, co-workers or parents,
6. Stealing small items from employer, home or school,
7. Secretive behaviour regarding actions and possessions,
8. Poorly concealed attempts to avoid attention and suspicion, such as frequent trips to storage rooms, restroom, basement or other locations.
Prescription drug abuse treatment The short and long term side effects of prescription drugs are every bit as serious as illegal drugs, sometimes much more serious, but the legal nature of the addiction often makes it difficult for the person to confront the reality that they need addiction treatment. What's more difficult, during treatment, is getting the addict to confront the reality that the addiction was caused by underlying emotional issues that need resolution for there to be real hope for a sustained recovery.
Detoxification is the beginning, but identifying and resolving a wide variety of underlying issues is the basis for a successful treatment program. That, almost without exception, requires the highest level of expertise to assess and counsel a patient and implement and monitor a holistic individualized rehabilitation program. That's the kind of expertise we have at Clear Haven, and because there is a direct relationship between success and the sheer amount of time patients spend with our certified addiction counselors, our program centers more around one-on-one counseling than any other residential alcohol and drug rehab center we know of. Surprising, when you consider our outstanding facilites, is that we are also more affordable that comparable drug rehabs.
